About us RISE Maritime Department delivers qualified marine technical consulting services and conducts research at a high international level. Our main focus is on ship development and marine operations, and we have 130 employees in Stockholm and Gothenburg. Here you can read more about our operations in Ship Design: Ship Technology and Systems Engineering | RISE (https://www.ri.se/en/expertise-areas/offers/ship-technology-and-systems-engineering)

The Ship Design unit is responsible for assignments where we support shipowners and authorities in their ship projects, where RISE contributes with the support of our competencies in:

  • Ship Technology
  • Ship Electrical Systems
  • Operations Analysis
  • Energy Analysis
  • Technical Project Management
  • Technical Information

The unit consists of about 20 people, mainly technicians and engineers with both practical and theoretical backgrounds. We work with FMV, the Armed Forces, the Swedish Transport Agency, and the Coast Guard, and we are now facing an exciting future with several interesting projects ahead of us. In these projects, we support everything from early feasibility studies to the point where the ships become operational, through design and construction.

About the positions Our capability is based on our collective capacity and competence. We are currently looking to increase our capacity both in the short and long term, meaning we are seeking both senior and junior personnel. Below is a brief summary of the services we deliver together.

  • Feasibility Studies
  • Ship Design
  • Technical Specification
  • Project Management
  • Procurement
  • Production Monitoring at Shipyards
  • Inspection Follow-ups
  • Military Systems

The position is performed in an environment consisting of senior colleagues and with modern technical tools, both commercial and self-developed. The role involves close collaboration with customers and users, often with onboard visits either at shipyards or in the customer's operational context.

The placement is in centrally located offices in Södermalm, Stockholm, or alternatively Gothenburg in the Chalmers area, where we also have large parts of our operations. With the right experience and competence, it is also possible to live and work from another location. We currently operate from a hybrid work model where most employees choose to split their work time between the office and home office. Travel may occur to some extent.

Planned customer assignments will likely require placement in a security classification, and thus security clearance may be necessary.

Who are you? You likely have a degree in marine systems, shipbuilding, marine engineering, or another engineering discipline. You may currently be an engineer, project manager, technician, or similar. We are looking for both recent graduates with relevant educational experience and senior employees from the maritime industry or similar fields, such as offshore, construction, military, defense industry, or manufacturing. You have a strong interest and curiosity in the marine technical field and are accustomed to working closely with technology in a project format.

As a person, you are used to being in various social contexts; you can adapt from sitting in steering group meetings one day to being onboard a ship in an engine room the next. Furthermore, you are self-assured, humble, and honest. You have Swedish citizenship now or shortly and are proficient in Swedish, both spoken and written. Are we right for each other? Our mission unites our different roles, tasks, and perspectives in a larger purpose. Together with our customers and partners, we develop competitive solutions and conditions that drive sustainable maritime development forward. Welcome to Sweden's research institute and innovation partner! We welcome your application! If this sounds interesting and you would like to know more, please feel free to contact the recruiting manager, Magnus Forsberg, magnus.forsberg@ri.se or +46 10 251 37 65. Our union representatives are Ulf Nordberg, SACO, 010-516 69 59 and Linda Ikatti, Unionen, 010-516 51 61.
